For UOW Students
UOW students are employed by the University of Wollongong in the ‘In2Uni’ Program to work in schools in the Illawarra & Shoalhaven regions. UOW students mentor school students in Years 7-12 to encourage them to reach their full potential and increase their educational aspirations.
The University Mentors will facilitate a peer learning environment whereby students can be involved in projects, which are outlined by UOW and DEC NSW, but adhere to their current curriculum. The University mentors will undergo a two day training workshop, which will provide them with facilitation strategies and skills related to group dynamics. The University Mentors will be recruited based upon their academic record, suitability to a peer mentoring role and desire to contribute to their local community. These leaders will provide an excellent role model to younger students and will establish a comfortable forum where school students can engage with group learning and problem solving skills through the completion of an assigned project. The University mentors will be paid by the University for the ‘Mentoring’ Sessions that they conduct.
