The University of Wollongong Psychology Clinic specialises in the treatment and assessment of a wide range of adult and child. Following the latest research into the management of these conditions, our most common interventions involve short-term (about 12 -16 weeks) of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. This approach to psychological problems is action-based and emphasises managing current difficulties. Clients are expected to be active participants in the treatment and will often be given out-of-session assignments as part of their behaviour change plan. Although the clinic specialises in working with psychological and psychiatric disorders, our therapeutic approach emphasises the client's strengths in achieving desired outcomes.
There are no medical doctors on the staff of the clinic, and so we do not prescribe medication. However, in some cases, medication is one part of the optimal treatment program. The clinic has strong ties to a number of psychiatrists and general practitioners, and appropriate joint treatment can be readily organised. We have also developed a substantial network of counsellors, personal development programs and specialised agencies that we can refer clients to if needed.
