Getting to UOW

Coming by car

The Wollongong campus is nestled beside the F6 freeway, allowing easy access for travel by car or motorcycle. (The F6 freeway follows the Princes Highway along the south coast).

  • From Sydney, proceed south along the F6 freeway. At the bottom of the escarpment the road takes a sweeping turn to the right and flattens out. About 500 metres on is the University/Gwynneville exit then just follow the signs onto campus.
  • From southern NSW, proceed north along the F6 freeway following the signs for Sydney and take the University exit.

Getting to Wollongong by train

It is relatively easy to get to Wollongong by train from Sydney Airport. From the station under the airport buy a ticket to Wollongong and catch the train to Wolli Creek. Change at Wolli Creek to the Illawarra and South Coast lines. You may be able to catch a train to Wollongong from Wolli Creek station or you may have to change trains at Hurstville. The whole trip is likely to take 2 hours and should cost $10. If you are looking at the train timetables (there is a link under “useful links” on the EPC site) you need to look at the South Coast line (not the Illawarra line which doesn’t actually come into the Illawarra).

Coming to UOW by Train

There is a shuttle bus that runs from North Wollongong train station and does a loop of the campus. The campus map here [pdf 359kb] shows bus stops and the conference venue.

Parking on Campus

As EPC is taking place during a non-teaching week there should be plenty of parking available on campus. Parking for visitors is restricted to certain car parks and there is a fee for parking on weekdays ($8 for the day in some car parks, $5 in the Western car park, although if you arrive with 3 or more occupants in the car you can park for free all day in the upper levels of the multi-storey car park, somewhat misleadingly labelled the “short-term parking station”). It should also be possible to park all day in the street at the western end of Northfields Ave. Other streets in the area of the university are restricted to 2 hour parking so look for the signs.

Here is a map [pdf 359kb] of the campus indicating the appropriate car parks and the conference venue.

Walking to the University

If you want to walk to the University from North Wollongong you need to cross the railway line by going over the pedestrian bridge at North Wollongong Railway Station. It’s a relatively simple walk if you do so, and it’s not if you don’t cross there.

Here is a map [pdf 389] on which there is marked routes from North Wollongong and from the centre of Wollongong that utilise walking/cycling tracks as much as possible
