School of Psychology

Already have clinical training but want to upgrade?

Clinical psychologists who wish to upgrade their qualifications to Doctoral level (DPsyc (Clinical)) are now able to do so. An individual program is offered for each applicant, and in the first instance it is a good idea to talk to the clinical director.

Typically, the upgrade involves 2 years of additional work involving:

1. Coursework
  • (a) Advanced training in personality disorders: seminars, workshops and clinical supervision on the evidenced-based treatment of personality disorders
  • (b) Advanced training in clinical supervision: seminars, workshops and supervision on models and methods for how to conduct effective clinical supervision for colleagues and students.
2. Clinical Practicum

500 hours of advanced clinical practicum (usually in the treatment of chronic disorders such as personality disorders).

3. A clinically-focused Doctorate research thesis

Commitment to this program requires 1-2 days on campus per week. Coursework and supervision at present is held on Mondays. Clinical work and research supervision will also need to be arranged.

Contact the School for further details.
