Collaboration with Illawarra Health

Illawarra Health and the School of Nursing, Midwifery & Indigenous Health are vital partners in the quest for excellence in nursing education.

About one third of the School's Bachelor of Nursing students fulfill their clinical practicum requirements in Illawarra Health facilities and receive supervision from existing nursing staff. The University in turn offers support and collaboration in research, staff development and continuing education programs.

Illawarra Health committees have input in curriculum development. Illawarra Health staff provide classroom teaching to students and offer information and advice on clinical issues. Students benefit from 'mock' interviews and 'mock' viva exams as well as viva exams conducted by Illawarra Health staff.

Collaborative work also includes the development of short clinical courses and the support of research students.

Several informal links exist with the Mental Health Service, the Drug and Alcohol Service and Public Health and Planning.
