course description

A Bachelor of Creative Arts - Bachelor of Journalism double degree allows students to sharpen their career focus of their studies in Creative Writing, Graphic Design, Music, Photography, Theatre, Visual Arts or Visual Arts and Design. The addition of a Journalism degree facilitates connections with the media industry through journalism internships and through the Journalism Advisory Group, composed of academic journalists and industry professionals.

Course structure

To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Creative Arts - Bachelor of Journalism, students must complete a minimum of 216 credit points (cp) comprised of the following:

  1. 18 credit points comprising the core BCA subjects:
  • CACS101 Contemporary Creative Practice
  • CACS102 Critical Frameworks in Creative Practice
  • CACS301 Professional Practice

 

  1. A major study in one of the following disciplines:

 

  1. 6 credit points of 300-level BCA theory subjects

 

  1. 84cp of core Bachelor of Journalism subjects

 

  1. 12cp of Journalism and/or Creative electives as outlined in the Bachelor of Journalism course handbook listing

 

  1. Elective subjects to bring the total number of credit points completed to 216

 

No more than 90cp at 100 level can be counted towards the Bachelor of Creative Arts- Bachelor of Journalism degree. Students must achieve a clear pass in the core 300 level subjects to be eligible to graduate with a Bachelor of Creative Arts- Bachelor of Journalism.

Students must consult academic advisors in the Faculty concerning the selection of appropriate subjects.

Minors

Students can also take a minor study as part of their degree program under the Bachelor of Creative Arts. Subjects taken as part of a minor study cannot be cross counted into any other minor or major study. Students are reminded that to have a minor study recorded they must declare their minor study by submitting an Application to Declare or Change Intended Major/Minor.

Honours

On completion of the Bachelor of Creative Arts, high achieving students may apply to undertake an additional Honours year. Students should consult the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Honours) page for entry requirements.
