Overview

This degree is designed to provide advanced studies in Computer Science at a professional level and also prepare students for the Master of Computer Science - Research or Doctoral research programs. Candidates may choose to complete either a single or a double major in a sub-discipline such as Multimedia Information Processing, Software Engineering, Computer and Network Security or Intelligent Systems.

Entry Requirements / Assumed Knowledge

A degree equivalent to a three-year Australian Bachelor degree with a major in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Computer Engineering, with at least a 60% average. Knowledge of C++ and UNIX is assumed.

Course Requirements

The degree requires satisfactory completion of 900 level subjects to the value of at least 72 credit points, including:
(a) At least three (3) subjects (18 cp) chosen from a major subject list;
(b) At least three (3) subjects (18 cp) chosen from another major subject list;
(c) satisfactory completion of CSCI940 Research Methodology (6 cp) and CSCI991 Project (12 cp)
(d) Up to three (3) subjects (18cp) from the CSCI Graduate Subject List
    Note:
    i) a maximum of two (2) subjects (12 cp) may be at 900-level from the following subject prefixes ISIT, MATH, STAT, ECTE or TBS. These subject prefixes may be substituted for subjects in the CSCI Graduate Subject List in rule (d) above. (Note that quotas may apply to TBS subjects offered at the Sydney Business School.)
    These subjects must be approved by the Head of School prior to commencing the subject/s.
    ii) Any other 900-level subjects must be approved by the Head of School prior to commencing the subject.

Areas of Major Study

Candidates enrolled in this degree may choose to major in:

    - Computer and Network Security (MC03)

    - Intelligent Systems (ISYS)

    - Multimedia Information Processing (MMIP)

    - Software Engineering (MC02)

Students may combine any of the above majors as a double major. A major in ICT Management (ICTM) is also available as a second major combined with one of the above majors.

ICT Management

The ICT Management major can only be taken as a second major in conjunction with Multimedia Information Processing or Software Engineering or Computer and Network Security or Intelligent Systems.

Candidates wishing to complete this major must complete 18cp from majors listed above, and 18cp from ICT major subject list. Completion of these subjects will satisfy course rule a) and b) above.
