Graduate Certificate in Multicultural Journalism

Overview

This course aims to: provide a path for journalists to attain higher academic qualifications; educate members of community organisations wanting to contribute to multicultural news services; and to provide grounding in journalism for students who are not professional journalists, but plan to work in multicultural news media.  The course introduces students to a cross-cultural context to news definition, production and presentation in the media.

Entry Requirements / Assumed Knowledge

A Bachelor degree (any discipline) or equivalent from a recognised institution with a credit average or higher.  Qualified journalists are eligible for consideration on the basis of documented evidence of at least two years full-time experience.  In special circumstances, representatives of multicultural communities wanting to contribute to multicultural news media services may be admitted on the basis of other documented academic qualifications or relevant professional experience.  Applicants with an undergraduate degree must provide certified academic transcripts and curriculum vitae (CV) outlining work history and/or academic study.  Applicants with experience in journalism or a media related industry must provide details of employment history (CV).

Applicants must provide an 800 - word opinion article (refer to application form).  If applying on basis of industry experience, samples of work published in the print or electronic media are required, as are letter(s) from employer(s) to verify details of employment.

All applicants must be able to provide documented proof of English language proficiency.  The University of Wollongong’s English Language Requirements are outlined at: http://www.uow.edu.au/prospective/international/english/index.html
