Human Geography, Physical Geography, Geology, Geosciences
The School of Geosciences comprises the disciplines of Geography
and Geology, and offers the following major studies. Students
may undertake one major study or combine two.
(i) Major Study in Human Geography
Human Geography encompasses the study of human societies
and human environments. Understanding and helping to resolve
conflicts and crises makes Human Geography an immediately
socially-relevant discipline. Human Geographers make an essential
contribution to environmental management, urban planning,
and the management of social and economic change.
Double Major
A Human geography major may be usefully combined with a physical
geography major.

Schedule or General
Schedule to total 144 credit points.
Students are encouraged to choose elective subjects
from the arts and social sciences, such as history,
economics and sociology. |
(ii) Major Study in Physical Geography
Physical Geography is the study of patterns and processes
in the environment caused by the forces of nature. It examines
the environment and ecological problems facing the world,
and provides the skills and knowledge to assist in managing
them.
Double Major
A Geology major can be combined with a Human Geography Major

(iii) Major Study in Geology
Geology is the study of the earth, the materials of which
it is made, the processes that act on these materials, the
products formed and the history of the planet and its life
forms. Areas of specialised study include economic geology
(coal, petroleum, uranium); geophysics; paeleontology; sedimentology;
structural geology; stratigraphy; tectonics; volcanology and
geochemistry.
