Master of Mathematics
The degree of Master of Mathematics shall be subject to the University
Course Rules for the award of the degree of Master together with the following
conditions.
(1) A candidate shall undertake a course of graduate studies and
research, normally chosen from the graduate subjects offered by the School
of Mathematics and Applied Statistics.
(2) Entry to the Master of Mathematics will normally be from a pass
degree with an appropriate 3 year sequence in Mathematics, or, subject
to the approval of Council on the recommendation of the Head of School,
from a degree or diploma containing substantial study in an appropriate
discipline.
(3) The Master of Mathematics will normally occupy two sessions
of full-time study or four sessions of part-time study, and requires satisfactory
completion of 900 level subjects to the value of at least 48 credit points,
including the subject MATH991 (12 credit points) and other 900 level subjects
to the value of at least 36 credit points approved by the Head of School.
In exceptional circumstances, and subject to approval of the Head of the
School, subjects with the value of at most 12 credit points, other than
MATH991, may be replaced by other 900 level subjects with value of at
least 12 credit points offered by departments other than the School of
Mathematics and Applied Statistics.
(4) The registration of a candidate will be subject to termination
if that candidate fails subjects to the total value of 18 or more credit
points.
(5) Each candidate shall have a supervisor appointed on the recommendation
of the Head of the School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics.
