Student Grievance Process
Student Grievance Process for an appeal against a decision or action affecting your academic performance and/or academic experience
The staff of the GSM understand that from time to time you may have a grievance concerning assessable work or any other type of decision or action of a staff member. The University has established a grievance process that starts with you trying to resolve the matter on an informal basis.
That is you should first approach the person(s) directly involved as soon as possible to discuss any question or concern. For example, you might approach your:
- Theme leader/lecturer for an explanation of a mark awarded for an assessment task;
- Phase chair/Sub Dean to discuss their decision regarding a special consideration application;
- Preceptor with a request for an explanation and/or remark
If you are unable to resolve the matter with that person on an informal basis, then we have provided you with a process for determination of your grievance that takes into account our commitment to deal with such matters fairly and equitably.
If you wish to proceed with this process, you should download the 'GSM Student Grievance Appeal Form' [docx 20kb].
You must lodge any appeal/grievance within 10 days of the release of the mark for the assessable work or the decision or action about which you are complaining.
Further information on the University's policy for dealing with student grievances can be found at: Academic Grievance Policy (Coursework and Honours Students) - Policy Directory @ UOW.
