Dr. Phillip Newlyn, Academic Leader Student Affairs (Shoalhaven)

Dr Phill Newlyn was appointed as Clinical Senior Lecturer with the GSM in 2006 and has held various roles within the school as RCA tutor, CBL tutor, Behavioural science lecturer and most recently as Academic Leader Student Affairs (Shoalhaven). In this role, Phill will advise Shoalhaven students requiring personal and academic support, facilitate student engagement with UOW student support services, help create supportive collegial relationships and develop and document policies and procedures regarding student welfare in partnership with the Academic Leader Student Affairs (Wollongong).

Phill has a clinically diverse background and holds dual qualification as a registered nurse and registered psychologist. After a professional background in emergency and intensive care nursing, drug and alcohol counselling and occupational psychology, Phill commenced his current post as Navy Psychologist at HMAS Albatross in 1996. This includes providing both general psychological services and education and training to defence personnel.

Phill’s clinical interests include critical incident interventions, suicide prevention and risk management and the psychological support of defence personnel, health professionals and students.
