Dr Russell Pearson, Regional Community Academic Coordinator, Illawarra

Dr Russell Pearson was appointed as Regional Community Academic Coordinator – Illawarra in January 2007. He holds an MBBS from the University of New South Wales and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, and a Fellow of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine.

Following his immediate postgraduate years at Wollongong Hospital, Russell established the Gerringong Family Medical Practice in 1980, where he remains a practice principal.

Russell has held Visiting Medical Officer appointments in General Practice at Kiama and Berry Hospitals (since 1981) and in Palliative Care at Karinya Palliative Care Unit (since 1988). He is a medical educator with City Coast Country Training and has been extensively involved in medical student, postgraduate and General Practice registrar teaching. He is passionate about general practice and community involvement.

Russell’s community service commitment is demonstrated by his after hours on-call participation, and his service club involvement. In 2003 Russell was foundation president of Gerringong Sunrise Rotary Club.

He is married to Susan and has 3 adult children.
