Professor John Bushnell, Deputy Dean, Director of Graduate Medical Programme
Professor John Bushnell comes to Wollongong from the University of Otago at Wellington School of Medicine and Health Sciences, where he has held a number of positions, including Associate Professor in Psychological Medicine, and Associate Dean for Medical Education with overall responsibility for the development and delivery of the University of Otago MBChB curriculum.
John trained as a clinical psychologist and worked in the medical and surgical wards of a general hospital for 25 years, in conjunction with various university based research and teaching roles.
His research interests are in medical education, and the interface between psychology and medicine. Until leaving New Zealand, he was director of the MaGPIe Research Group, a collaboration between colleagues in General Practice, Public Health, and Psychological Medicine looking at mental health issues in primary care.
John is passionate about producing doctors with the skills and knowledge to meet the real health needs of the communities within which they work.
