Welcome

The Graduate School of Medicine accepted its first intake of students in January 2007, with student cohorts based in purpose-built buildings on the Wollongong and Shoalhaven campuses. The innovative curriculum integrates the attainment of medical science knowledge, clinical competencies, research and critical analysis skills, and professional behaviours throughout the four years of the program. The students are nurtured in a highly supportive environment by faculty comprising university staff and clinicians in hospitals and the community. The goal of the School is to address the shortage of medical practitioners in regional, rural and remote Australia, and the selection and training of our students has been designed to facilitate achievement of this goal. Our graduates will be equipped for further training in the specialty of their choice, and irrespective of the specialty they select for advanced training it is our hope that a majority of them will choose to make their careers in those areas of Australia where they are most needed.
