Faculty Executive Committee
Terms of Reference
The Terms of Reference are provided as guidelines to Faculties to assist in ensuring effective Faculty Governance. Faculties are encouraged to modify membership as required by changing faculty structures.
The Faculty Executive Committee shall:
- advise its Dean, and through the Dean the Academic Senate, on the administration of the relevant degree, diploma and associate diploma Rules;
- provide draft resolutions for items on the agenda for meetings of the Faculty;
- review regularly and, as appropriate, recommend to the Faculty the relevant degree, diploma and associate diploma course and subject proposals of member Departments, Schools and Centres, if the Committee is satisfied that the proposals promote the maximum co-operation;
- oversee the Faculty's teaching program and specifically to recommend initiatives, where possible and desirable, to facilitate the offering of common first year subjects;
- advise the Dean on budgetary proposals and on how best the resources of the Faculty can be deployed to achieve the University's objectives;
- establish procedures for reviewing matters related to the admission, enrolment, supervision and examination of postgraduate students and for considering annual reports regarding progress of higher degree students.
Membership
Faculties may determine their own Executive Committee membership but such committees would be expected to include:
- the Dean
- the Sub-Dean
- a member of general staff
- the Chair of the Faculty Education Committee
- the Chair of the Faculty Research Committee
- any such other members of the Faculty as the Faculty may determine
