UEC Terms of Reference

The University Education Committee's responsibilities are spelt out in its Terms of Reference which state that "the University Education Committee shall:

• Provide leadership to achieve the University's objectives in learning and teaching, including those relating to the learning environment;
• Advise the Academic Senate on all learning and teaching matters;
• Oversee and review the development and implementation of standards and quality assurance policies in all aspects of learning and teaching;
• Oversee the University's framework for recognition of teaching excellence;
• Encourage research and development of educational innovation, blended learning and the evaluation of learning and teaching in the University;
• Sponsor and encourage the exchange and dissemination of information about learning and teaching innovation throughout the University;
• Review annually, as part of the strategic planning cycle, developments in learning and teaching.
   

Membership

The membership of the UEC is drawn from all sections of the University. The membership was approved as part of the Terms of Reference which state that the University Education Committee shall consist of:

• the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), who shall be Chairperson
• the Executive Director, Learning & Teaching, who shall be the Deputy Chairperson
• the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) or their nominee
• the Dean of Students
• the Chair, Education Policy Review Subcommittee (EPRS)
• the Chair, Learning Engagement & Support Subcommittee (LESS)
• the Chair, Learning Environment & Innovation Subcommittee (LEIS)
• the Chair, Standards & Quality Subcommittee (SAQS)
• the Chair, Teaching Excellence Subcommittee (TES)
• the Chair, Academic Senate
• the Academic Registrar
• Five (5) Senior Academics (elected by Senate)
• the Chairs of each Faculty Education Committee (10)
• the Curriculum Committee Chair, Graduate School of Medicine
• the Head, CEDIR
• the University Librarian or their nominee
• the Head, Learning Development
• the Head, Shoalhaven Campus
• the Campus Director, UOW College
• the Dean of Research
• the Director, ITS or their nominee
• the Director Student Support & Peer Learning & PASS National Trainer
• Two (2) Undergraduate Student Representatives
• One (1) Postgraduate Student Representative
   

Quorum

The UEC has a quorum which is "equal to one-half or, where one-half is not a whole number, the whole number next higher to one-half of the total number of members for the time being of the Committee".
