"Excellence in Governance"

Overview

Policy and Governance is a unit of the Academic Registrar's Division. The P&G Unit vision is "excellence in governance". In order to achieve this vision the Unit provides direction on policy and governance to facilitate effective decision-making through the University. The P&G Unit is a high performing team and as such, each team member is required to work within the values of integrity, efficiency & effectiveness, reciprocity, interdependence and resilience while utilising a strategic approach to Unit business.

The Unit is responsible for the provision of high quality support services to senior University personnel and commitees. The Unit provides a customer service role primarily to faculties, academic staff and other Units or Divisions of the University in the interpretation and implementation of policy. The portfolio of the Unit includes educational policy development and review, quality assurance, governance support, course management, graduation coordination and provision of relevant corporate information such as the Annual Report.

Governance

• Facilitation of the University's academic decision making through participation and the provision of executive support to University committees, sub-committees and working parties. http://www.uow.edu.au/governance/

Policy Development, Implementation and Practice

• Functions relating to university and educational policy and practice, including development of new and reviews of existing policies and maintenance of the University's online Policy Directory.

Course Management

• Management of the University's rules, policies, procedures, practices, documents and systems that relate to its courses and development of a cohesive framework for the effective management of courses from concept, development, promotion, delivery, and review.

Production of Publications

• Including the undergraduate and postgraduate Course Handbooks, Calendar of Governance, Rules and Policies, the University Annual Report, and the policy and committee newsletter Communique.

Graduation

• Coordination of the University's graduation ceremonies. http://www.uow.edu.au/student/graduation/

Elections

Quality

• Facilitation of University self-assessment and self-audit (quality assurance) for accountability, benchmarking and continuous improvement in its academic programs, for the delivery of quality services and functions at all campuses. http://www.uow.edu.au/planquality/quality/index.html
