A UOW degree will maximise your child’s choices in a rapidly changing world. At UOW a world of possibilities awaits!
UOW is not just a place to study; we give our students the opportunity to:
- Jump-start their life
- Ignite their imagination
- Build their confidence
- Make new friends
- Lay the foundations for the future
Your child will be part of a community that attracts students from around Australia and 70 other countries. It is a friendly and safe community with a multitude of social, sports and cultural activities—an environment where they can make the most of living, learning and socialising.
They will also find a wide range of (mostly free) support services—academic and non-academic—to help them through their time at university.
Ask a student
UOW’s friendly student representative team is more than happy to answer any questions your child may have about:
- A particular course
- What university life is really like
- How they coped with moving to Wollongong
The team comprises students from all of our faculties, as well as those who have moved from country areas to UOW. Email the Student Team.

Campus life
UOW’s main campus lies at the foothills of Mt Keira between a rainforest escarpment and the Pacific Ocean. Respecting the natural environment was integral to the award-winning campus design, with native gardens and streams abounding in birdlife. The Duck Pond Lawn is a central gathering place for work and play, where students can study using the campus-wide wireless internet, or simply relax and listen to music on the outdoor surround-sound system. Markets, information stalls and displays add to the atmosphere.
Your son or daughter will find everything they need on campus, from cafés, restaurants, bars and a cinema to banks, a hairdresser, travel agent, post office and state-of-the-art gym, aquatic centre, playing fields and courts.
There are also many quiet places. Our modern library is an open and relaxing study space with flexible facilities and services to help students learn.

Dynamic learning
As a UOW student, your child will not only have access to state-of-the-art facilities, they will also enjoy close interaction—and two-way communication—with their tutors and lecturers.
Class sizes are small, so the teacher will know their name. Our teachers are highly qualified and not only great at teaching—they are experts in their field. If your child studies Journalism or Media, they will be taught by journalists who impart real-life knowledge about working in the media.
…They will learn from French historians, Japanese linguists, political philosophers, lawyers, Triple J film reviewers…
Our academic community has strong links with industry and business, which means we are up to date with the latest global trends and needs. Our opinions are sought globally on wide-ranging topics, and each of our faculties offers unique opportunities to connect with industry and employers.
Your child can also enhance their degree at one of more than 100 universities worldwide; with leadership programs; or on career-enhancing internships.
At UOW, our students are supported and encouraged to find their dream career throughout their degree. Upon completion, our Careers Service will help them find a job in their chosen field.
Lifestyle
Lifestyle is almost as important as study when it comes to university, and at UOW we offer the best of both worlds. Your child will have many opportunities in which to become immersed on campus.
Clubs can be social (M-Society, Law Students' Society), selfless (Amnesty International, Oxfam) or athletic. There’s something for everyone, but if there is a gap they can create their own club. See our clubs and societies.
The University Art Collection is displayed on the walls of many of our buildings around campus; we hold regular exhibitions of local and international artists in the University Galleries, and each year we hold the prestigious Graduation Exhibition by final-year Art and Design students.
There are many food and drink options with a gourmet restaurant, cafés, food courts and the UniBar.
For film buffs, UniMovies shows new-release movies each Wednesday night at student-friendly prices.
Yoga is just one of the many other value-for-money healthy lifestyle options at the Recreation and Aquatic Centre. There is a full range of indoor and outdoor facilities, a multitude of sports clubs (both competitive and social) and a variety of leisure and adventure activities.
And there is plenty to keep them entertained. Wollongong reflects the city’s diverse community and coastal lifestyle.
