Student Facilitators – Undergraduate Orientation 
Program for New Students

Are you enthusiastic and committed to giving new students in your faculty the best chance for success?

Can you remember what it was like to start at university - what do you wish you had known back then?

The Faculty of Engineering is introducing a new orientation program called UStart@UOW and is seeking a small number of enthusiastic student facilitators interested in developing and delivering the program.

Successful applicants will be required to attend a one-day training session in early December that will equip them to develop an orientation program for new students. The program for new students will run for one day and it will be based on what the facilitators wished they had known at the beginning of their studies. The development of the program will require facilitators to meet as a group throughout January and provide regular updates on their progress. The orientation program will be delivered in mid-February 2012.  

In recognition of their participation, facilitators will each be paid $200 and will also receive a Myers Voucher to the value of $200 following the delivery of the program in February. In addition, a Certificate of Appreciation will be provided by the faculty.

To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate program in the Faculty of Engineering and have completed one year of full-time study (or equivalent). We are seeking applicants from all ‘walks of life’ so if you are interested, please apply in writing following the directions below.

1. Briefly address the following criteria:

• Details about your entry pathway – HSC or Direct entry (Mature aged entrant, TAFE, WCA or other).
• Personal details – First in Family, Residence (from a rural or remote area), or other significant aspects.
• Details of relevant experience (involvement in community programs, mentoring or other).

2.  Applicants should also provide a one-page statement that describes why they think a program like this is important and why they wish to be involved.
