Recent News
- Mr. Tjark van Staveren from TUDelft spent six months in 2010 in our group and conducted the experimental part of his Masters thesis. His Masters degree, which centred on in-situ observations of phase transformations in titanium alloys has now been awarded
- Dr Mansoor Barati from McMaster University conducted experiments with our group, using the high-temperature microscope
- Mark Reid spent two weeks in December 2010 assisting our collaborators in Leoben to commission their new high-temperature laser-scanning confocal microscope
- Mark Reid spent a week in the University of Freiberg assisting them with the operations of their high-temperature microscope
- Rian Dippenaar visited POSCO’s Gwangyang Works to present the results of a joint research project
- Prof. Christian Bernhard from The University of Leoben spent a week late in 2010 with our group discussing joint projects
- Dr. Lijia He from The Liaoning University of Technology joined our group as Visiting Research Fellow for a period of one year. He works closely with Ali Dehghan-Manshadi on thermo-mechanical processing of titanium alloys
- Ms. Lisa Thönnessen from The University of Aachen joined our group as a practicum student for three months from February 2011
- Dr Dong-Dong from Harbin Institute conducted experiments with metallic glasses with Mark Reid and Salar Niknafs in April and May 2010
- Dr. Rob O'Donnell from CSIRO conducted experiments on metallic glasses with Mark Reid in January 2010
- Mr Thomas Schmöltzer from The University of Leoben spent three weeks with our group in March/April 2011, conducting experiments on Ti-aluminides using the high-temperature microscope in following up on earlier collaborative work with Kun Yan and Mark Reid on the synchrotron in Grenoble
- Rian Dippenaar attended the opening ceremony of The Graduate Institute for Ferrous Technology (GIFT) at POSTECH in Pohang, South Korea as a quest of GIFT. He also presented a lecture at the following international symposium on international collaboration in iron and steel technology
- Rian Dippenaar served for from 2007 t0o 2009 on the Board of Directors of the international Association of Iron and Steel Technologists, based in the USA. He is currently Chair of the Australian Chapter of this organization.
