Modeling

Thermodynamic Modeling

● MTDATA

MTDATA computes chemical and phase equilibrium as a function of composition and conditions, with results presented as tables or diagrams. The calculations can also be linked to process modelling software, thereby enabling kinetic problems to be solved. It can be used for the study of alloys, oxides and metal-slag-gas equilibria.

For more information, contact Brian Monaghan.

● ThermoCalc

ThermoCalc can be used for studying phase transitions and phase stability, precipitation.

ThermoCalc is the standard tool for equilibrium calculations and calculation of thermodynamic quantities. It provides the capability to obtain compositional data for phases as a function of temperature, composition and pressure. Specific interfaces allow using this data for kinematic or solidification modeling, for example using DICTRA or MICRESS.

For more information, contact Rian Dippenaar.

Solidification Modeling

● MICRESS

The MICrostructure Evolution Simulation Software enables the calculation of microstructure formation in time and space during phase transformations, especially in metallurgical systems. It allows treatment of multiphase, multigrain and multicomponent problems in the fields of solidification, grain growth, recrystallization or solid state phase transformations.

● DICTRA

DICTRA is a tool for accurate simulations of diffusion in multicomponent alloy systems. Many different processes can be simulated, for example homogenization, carburising, segregation and precipitate growth.

Finite Element Analysis

Structural and Thermal Finite Element Calculations can be performed using ABAQUS Standard and Explicit, to deliver solutions for challenging non-linear problems, large scale linear dynamics applications, and routine design simulations.
