Establish and maintain a world class cooperative research team in superconducting & electronic materials science and technology, and to stimulate the technological and commercial development of the Australian industry in this field.

| ISEM will carry out this mission by: |
| * Establishing interdisciplinary research team for conducting high quality basic/generic research; |
| * Maintaining an awareness of emerging science and technology in this field from around the world; |
| * Promoting the commercialisation of superconducting & electronic materials technology to sponsoring companies; |
| * Enhancing the existing strong, national and international links in the field; |
| * Contributing to the education of high quality postgraduates and postdoctoral fellows. |
