About
Formula SAE
Formula SAE is a competition coordinated by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) with a rich history of challenging the world’s young professionals. The competition requires student teams to design and manufacture an open-wheel, formula-style race car. The culmination of the project comes when the cars, built by university students, from all over the world, convene and compete in a number of dynamic and static events spread over 4 days. Worldwide, there are 9 competitions held every year, one in Australia, one in Japan, three in Europe, one in Brazil, and three in the USA. The Australian competition has been running for 8 years and attracts approximately 30 teams representing a number of countries from around the world including Germany, New Zealand, Japan and many more.
The concept behind Formula SAE is that a fictional manufacturing company has contracted a design team to develop a small Formula-style race car. The prototype race car is to be evaluated for its potential as a production item. Formula SAE promotes careers and excellence in engineering as it encompasses all aspects of the automotive industry including research, design, manufacturing, testing, developing, marketing, management and finances. Formula SAE takes students out of the classroom and allows them to apply textbook theories to real work experiences.
UOW FSAE

The UOW FSAE team consists of a number of undergraduate students. The vast majority of team members are Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering students who design and manufacture the vehicle from start to finish. However there is more to the team than just building the car, and we are always looking for members from other disciplines such as Finance, IT and Creative Design.
