    Brachytherapy

A new MOSFET dosimetry system has been designed for brachytherapy applications. The new system is battery operated and allows the simultaneous measurement of 5 sensors. Each with different sensetivity from several cGy up to 1000 Gy. The system allows manual or computer control with optical link. Different sensors for catheter applications or customized in a needle are in preparation. The system allows on-line dose readout during the patient's irradiation and does not require a seperate unit for MOSFET bias during irradiation. Software has been developed for clinical application. We have also developed a new approach to low dose rate brachytherapy dosimetry-spectroscopy which is a collaborative project with MSKCC and St George CCC. This approach enables the real-time monitoring of dose and dose rate within the urethra during the brachytherapy procedure.
Collaborators: Mater Hospital (Newcastle), St. George Cancer Care Centre, Australia; Illawarra Cancer Care Centre, Wollongong, Australia; Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), New York, USA.
