Getting to Wollongong from Sydney airport |
|

Immigration, Health and Visa Requirements |
|
Nationals of all countries except New Zealand will require a passport,
visa or Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) for entry to Australia. New Zealand
residents require a passport only. If you travel to Australia with a major
airline, the airline can automatically obtain your visa in the form of
an ETA. More information about this process can be found here.
Participants who have recently visited certain countries may require immunisation
against some diseases. Visa and other information may be found from an
Australian High Commission, Embassy or Consulate or from a British Embassy
or consulate if no Australian office is available.

Climate |
|
Summer weather in Wollongong in December has typical day time maximum and night
time minimum temperatures of 24C (75F) and 20C (68F) respectively. |

Banking and Currency Exchange |
|
Money can be exchanged at banks, most of which open from 9:30 am to
4:00 pm weekdays. Few are open Saturdays and none on Sundays. Money exchange
facilities are available at Sydney airport, at larger city centre hotels. 24 hour automatic teller machines that accept a
number of overseas cards are also widely available.

|
Electricity |
|
Mains electricity in all states is 240 V and 50 Hz. The plug is most
uncommon to many other countries and so purchase of a universal adaptor
is convenient, particularly if you are using a laptop.

Personal Insurance |
|
Since Health care is not free for visitors to Australia it is strongly
recommended that medical and travel insurance be taken out to cover the possibility of illness. Australia does however have reciprocal health agreements with some countries which entitles you to limited subsidised health services for immediately necessary treatment while visiting Australia. Please see here .

|
|
Driver's license |
|
Overseas driving licences are recognised in Australia and car rental
companies require either a current overseas licence or an international
licence. Australians drive on the left hand side of the road and the law
requires that the driver and all passengers wear a seat belt at all times.
A driver blood alcohol limit of 0.05% applies also. |

|
Other Safety Issues |
|
The workshop will be held in summer, as such sun and water safety is important. When in the sun always wear appropriate protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses) to prevent sunburn. Australian beaches are patrolled by lifesavers, when swimming one must always remain between the red and yellow flags; if there are no flags, do not swim. Do not swim immediately after you have eaten. The emergency number in Australia is 000. |
