Nuclear vs Renewables

Although nuclear power has major advantages over coal fired power plants when it comes to pollution output, it remains evident that renewable sources such as hydroelectric, wind powered and solar are a much better alternative when considering pollution output per unit of power produced.

One slight advantage of nuclear power sites is that they do not require vast amounts of space, which means low levels of eco-system destruction. Renewable power set ups often require large regions of open space to produce an equivalent amounts of energy which ultimately leads to land degradation and environmental impact.

However, it must be taken into consideration that although a nuclear power plant itself does not take up comparatively large amounts of space, there is still the need for mining of ore, storage of waste, fuel enrichment etc. which increase the demand on space needed.
