Monte Carlo Workshop
(Focus on Medical Radiation Physics Applications)
19-20-21 April 2013
The goal of this workshop is to discuss the capability of Geant4 and other Monte Carlo codes for Medical Radiation Physics, to benchmark Monte Carlo codes accuracy with respect to experimental and reference data, to create a network of Monte Carlo code users in Australia and New Zealand, to enhance collaboration between Australia and other Countries.
Topics of the Monte Carlo workshop: X-ray radiotherapy, IMRT, MRT, hadrontherapy, heavy ion therapy, brachytherapy, medical imaging, radiation protection, development of radiation detectors. Particular attention will be devoted to dosimetry, microdosimetry, nanodosimetry. Validation of Monte Carlo physics models will be also an important topic.
The Monte Carlo Workshop will be held in Building 24, room G03 (ground floor) on the 19th April and in Building 32 (IHMRI Building), room G01, ground floor on the 20th and 21st April.
Lunches will be provided in Building 6, third floor.
Please download the Wollongong Main Campus map from here. Information on buildings location, car parking sites and free shuttle bus stop is provided.
The social dinner will take place on Friday 19th April, at 7 pm, at the Rock Salt Bar and Grill, 1 Marine Drive, Wollongong NSW 2500. (map)

Geant4 School
22-23-24 April 2013
The school consists of three days of lectures and hands-on sessions, where students will gain confidence with Geant4 and will learn how to develop a Geant4 based application.
Agenda of the school Short CVs of lecturers
The hands-on sessions will consist of a series of informal seminars and structured exercises during which students will learn to develop a Geant4 based dosimetric system for brachytherapy. Although this Geant4 application is in the domain of medical physics, the basic concepts will be covered in a sufficiently general way such that students will learn how to develop any Geant4 application of interest.
The course is addressed to undergraduate/postgraduate students with previous knowledge of radiation physics and basic knowledge of scientific computing, to researchers and medical physicists, interested in the use of Geant4.
The Geant4 School morning lectures will be held in Building 32 (IHMRI), room G01. The afternoon hands-on sessions will take place in Building 6 (SMART Building) 3rd floor, in labs 315 and 316.
Lunches will be provided in Building 6, third floor.
Please download the Wollongong Main Campus map from here. Information on buildings location, car parking sites and free shuttle bus stop is provided.
The social dinner will be held at the Lupa Pizzeria on Monday 22nd April, at 7 pm. (map)
Requirements to attend the Geant4 School
Attendees of the Geant4 School should bring a Wi-Fi capable laptop with internet connection protocols such as Xming and SSH. If any student does NOT have access to a personal laptop, they should contact Dean Cutajar (deanc@uow.edu.au) to make alternative arrangements. Students will connect remotely to the CMRP cluster where Geant4 will be installed and ready to use.
Enrollment is open
