A number of societies provide professional accreditation and services for MSE students and graduates. Listed below are the societies currently active at UoW.
IMEA: Institute for Materials Engineering AustralasiaTMS: The Minerals, Metals and Materials SocietyTMS is a US based materials society and it is one of largest materials professional bodies in the world with over 70,000 members world-wide. It is a non profit body and promotes science and technology of materials processing /advanced materials among students, researchers in academia, research labs and government institutions around the globe. TMS also promotes students participation in many countries and offers scholarships, job placement and many other services. UOW has an active TMS STUDENT CHAPTER managed by students and ha sat present over 28 members both UG and PGs. The Chapter promotes social and professional activities among students at UOW. AusIMM: Australasian Institute for Mining and MetallurgyThe Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) represents the interests of professionals associated in all facets of the mining, exploration and minerals processing industries. The institute has a very active local Illawarra branch at the University. The branch organizes the technical and social calendar for its members. This includes plant visits, conferences and technical lecturers by internationally renowned scientists and technologists. The AusIMM has a strong focus on continuing professional development for graduated engineers, provides a forum to network with other engineers and offers student sponsorship in support of study in engineering. http://www.uow.edu.au/eng/ausimm/
