Upward Slicing

The upward slicing method is favoured where conditions consist of a strong, and non-caving roof.

Upward slicing is heavily reliant on the ability to effectivly back fill the mined out area. Where consolidation occurs, the above coal seam may fracture, and results in bad working conditions for subsequent cuts, as well as fire hazards.

Non-uniform filling and consolidation causes unequal subsidence, which worsens the situation.
