Longwall

Non Simultaneous Downward Slicing

In Downward slicing, the seam is mined by taking multiple 'slices' of coal, starting at the top of the seam, and working down. These slices are mined using conventional longwall equipment.

It is vital that the goaf be allowed to settle for at least two years between slices

This method will result in considerable subsidence issues, which must be addressed at the planning stage of the mine.
