The vast majority of engineers in Australia, and around the world, are involved in managing engineering assets. Every day decisions are made that affect the lifecycle cost of a company’s expensive assets and there are increasing expectations to demonstrate competency and transparency in these decisions. Engineering Asset Management has evolved into a recognised discipline and this course draws on evolving International Standards and best practice to equip asset managers to make rational decisions in an increasingly uncertain world.

Why Study at UOW?

The University of Wollongong has been offering leading, internationally recognised programs in Engineering Asset Management since 1992. The programs have been developed in collaboration with key engineering asset driven organizations, to address industry needs and requirements. Our capability is built on many years of practical experience in supporting major Australian and international engineering asset owners and maintainers such as Mass Transit Railway Corporation Hong Kong, BlueScope Steel, Energy Australia, Sydney Water and RailCorp. UOW has a unique partnership with the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) providing students with access to experts in the field of reliability engineering and system safety as part of their study program. These courses will assist both asset owners and asset managers and is suitable for engineers involved in investment, design, construction, operations and maintenance.

What is Engineering Asset Management?

Engineering Asset Management is an emerging inter-disciplinary field that focuses on the management of assets and their associated performance, risks and expenditures throughout their lifecycle to achieve the organisational strategic plan. It combines the technical issues of asset reliability, safety and performance with financial and managerial requirements. The emphasis is on the use of systematic, data-driven, life-cycle and risk-based decision-making to improve competitive advantage and reduce costs.
