Richard DwightCourse Coordinator
Richard coordinates the engineering asset management and rolling stock engineering programs at the University of Wollongong. He also teaches mechanical design. He is the education manager for the energy pipelines CRC. Richard has research interests in engineering asset management and railway engineering and leads a major research program focused on railway noise funded by the CRC Rail Innovations. Richard has 19 years experience in industry including roles as investigation engineer and engineering manager for what is now BlueScope Steel |
Simon BastinManager Systems Safety and Reliability, ANSTO
Simon Bastin has a BE (Mechanical) Hons from the University of Sydney and an MEngSc (Electrical) degree from the University of New South Wales. Simon has a strong background in risk and reliability assessment with over 21 years' experience in fields such as probabilistic safety assessment, FMECA, HAZOP, Design and Safety Reviews and Reliability Analysis and Assessment, supporting Engineering Asset Management. Simon manages the Systems Safety and Reliability at ANSTO. This section provides a wide range of services supporting the safety and reliability assessment of plant, processes and facilities on and off the site. Simon has been involved in significant risk and reliability assessment projects for commercial consultants in a variety of industries, including offshore petroleum, petrochemicals, explosives, metals and hazardous chemicals, as well as in the nuclear and radiation industry. He teaches ENGG961 Systems Reliability Engineering in the Engineering Asset Management Masters degree program at the University of Wollongong through an agreement between the two organisations. This agreement brings practical industry application to the teaching environment. |
Khaled El-Akruti
Khaled El-Akruti is a PhD candidate at the University of Wollongong. He is working on the role of asset management in sustaining the strategic capability for industrial systems. He has also completed a Master of Technology in Industrial Engineering at the Higher Institute of Industry, Libya and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at Dalhousie University, Canada. Khaled has 14 years experience working with industrial systems in the steel industry at the Libyan Iron & Steel Company (LISCO), working in the Central Maintenance Department for 2 years and the Production Planning & Control Department for 12 years. He also lectured at 7th of Aril University for four years teaching subjects such as; Analysis & Design of Industrial Engineering System, Engineering Management, Maintenance Management and Project Management. He currently teaches ENGG958 Life-Cycle and Risk Management at the University of Wollongong. |
Peter Gordon
Peter is a mechanical engineer with over 30 years experience in the Steel Industry. He has held senior positions at Port Kembla Steelworks in Plant Maintenance, Maintenance Technology and Engineering Management. He has experience in team leadership, plant reliability improvement, shutdown management, preventative maintenance program development and the implementation of maintenance management systems. He is currently teaching the Maintenance Requirements Analysis Subjects, MECH487 and ENGG960. |
Greg Jones
Greg Jones completed a Bachelor of Commerce with a double major in accounting and business management at the University of Tasmania. He then continued on to complete a Masters of Accounting - Research at the University of Wollongong and researched the topic, "Use of emotional intelligence to develop graduate attributes in accounting students". He is currently enrolled in a PhD investigating the impact of NSW local government involvement in at-risk investments at the University of Wollongong. Greg was previously employed as a tax accountant and auditor. He was also a partner and financial officer in a sub-division construction business for 15 years and a licensed plumber. He was the Director of a property development company involved in construction and redevelopment of residential properties. He has extensive experience teaching across a wide range of accounting subjects including first year accounting, second year financial and management accounting, third year auditing and management accounting, post graduate auditing, financial and management accounting. He currently teaches ENGG956 Financial Management for Engineered Assets. |
Ann RogersonMaster of Management (Dist) UOW Justice of the Peace (NSW)
Ann joined the Sydney Business School, part of the University of Wollongong, in 2009 as a lecturer in organisational behaviour related disciplines. She teaches about the management of people in both a domestic and international context, drawing on her experience of managing diverse work forces within the Asia Pacific region. Prior to moving into academia in 2008, Ann's experience covers over 30 years in management and consulting, specialising in analysing, re-engineering, developing and implementing business practices from a human resources, project management, communications, and operational perspective. She has been employed in senior positions in both private and public corporations. Both the day to day aspects, and the industrial and regulatory frameworks that impact employees and the people who manage them are examined during the course of study. Ann’s broad range of practical experience in the management of people and organisational human resource processes enables real world examples to be utilised to demonstrate the application of theory in the business world. She is a trained Targeted Selection interviewer, experienced human resources practitioner and industrial relations negotiator and qualified to hold a travel agents licence in Australia. Ann's research interests are in the area of organisational communication, generational influences in the workplace, and the management of plagiarism, conflict, ethics and change. She is a current doctoral candidate in Doctor of Business Administration programme through the Sydney Business School, with her thesis focussed on the area of managerial communication within organisations. Ann currently teaches TBS903 Managing People in Organisations. |
Chris Cooper
Chris Cooper was educated at the University of Queensland in Mechanical Engineering (B.E. Mech.) and subsequently at the University of Wollongong in Commerce Postgraduate Management (M. Mgt.). Chris has applied these engineering and management skills for more than 30 years to plant and equipment maintenance and improvement. This experience in engineering asset management practices was acquired through engagement in the engineering and maintenance of plant and equipment associated with the steel, power, sugar and mining industries. His career has provided the opportunity to fine tune capability and knowledge of global asset management best practices, from positions in shop floor ‘hands on’ to senior management together with overseas delegations to study international maintenance practices. He has provided this experience in the development of Australian Standards in bulk materials handling and life cycle costing in addition to membership of The Institution of Engineers Asset Management Excellence Awards judging panels. Chris is currently teaching ENGG957 Project implementation and Outsourcing. |
Ken Stevenson
Ken Stevenson has a BSc with a double major in Chemistry and Pure/Applied Mathematics from the University of Sydney and a BMath majoring in Statistics from the University of Wollongong. Ken retired in 2006 from the position of Head Teacher (Mathematics) at Sydney Institute of Technology – the largest post secondary educational institution in the southern hemisphere. He supervised, and lectured in, Mathematics, Statistics and IT studies spread across the Schools of Business, Engineering, Biological Studies, Photography and General Education. Ken currently lectures in Statistics (Design of Experiments) and Simulation in ENGG953 (Modelling of Engineering Management Systems) in the Engineering Asset Management Masters degree Program. |
