Malaysian Professional Experience 2010
General Information
The PEX round will be in one of the best locations in South East Asia. George Town, Penang, is a UNESCO heritage city landscape. It is well recognised as an education centre in Asia and the visit will be assisted by the Universiti of Sains Malaysia and the Penang State Department of Education (JPPP). Penang is a multicultural city with Malays, Chinese and Indian communities featuring in a population where Muslims, Buddists, Hindus, Sikhs and Christians live together in harmony. English is one of the main languages of Malaysia and many people in Penang are familiar with and speak English well.
Penang is in close proximity for additional trips after the PEX to Southern Thailand, Sumatra Indonesia, Singapore as well as destinations in Malaysia such as the Cameron Highlands, Taman Negara. Lake Pedu and the East Coast of Peninsula Malaysia. Trips to East Malaysia Sabah and Sarawak are also recommended.
Penang is a safe and secure destination for tourists and business people and the security situation should not pose problems to visitors. The community is familiar with Australians as an RAAF base was in neighbouring Butterworth until the 1970s and there are many tourists. There is also an economic zone where many expatriates work in the computer and electronic industry.
The Schools selected are some of the oldest and most prestigious schools in South East Asia and are located in a region and culture where education is valued highly. By Asian standards the schools are well equipped and teachers are well trained. In Malaysia. Maths and Science are now taught in English from primary school. Malaysian education has allocated priorities to developing IT skills, Maths and Science, English and Sport.
Our host schools are public schools, fully funded by the Malaysian government. Students will be allocated to primary and secondary schools depending on their degree and subject specialisation.
