Postgraduate Study with the Faculty of Education

UOW coursework programs present the latest findings and contemporary practices from around the globe. The programs are designed to help you to make a real impact on your working environment. You will develop a practical and relevant skills base, critical in today’s education market.

Degree Structure

Coursework programs require the completion of coursework subjects in a particular discipline or professional area. Normally, a full-time student undertakes subjects which amount to 48 credit points per year. Each subject is allocated a credit point value. You will normally undertake semester-long sessional subjects. As a guide, the work load for a 6 credit point single subject in a postgraduate coursework program is an average of twelve hours per week.

This is a recommended work load for postgraduates and may vary depending on your academic ability and previous knowledge of the subject. Assessments may be based on a combination of class participation, written work and practical tasks.

Program Delivery

The postgraduate program with the Faculty of Education is delivered both on campus and by distance education. On campus study may include a mixture of traditional weekly classes at the UOW campus, monthly meetings, weekend workshops or small-group meetings with lecturers. The structure of your on campus study will vary depending on which the subjects chosen. All subjects are supported by online resources.

Students undertaking distance education will access all of their study materials online - course notes, activities, links to electronic resources and readings, plus access to forums with fellow students and communication with tutors.

For more information about how degrees are delivered within the Faculty, see the specific information for your chosen course in the area of study section.

Interested students should check the formal course descriptions in the University Handbook for more detailed information about each program of study.
