Important information for Distance Students
Distance students enrol and manage their study program using the same online systems and observe the same administrative deadlines as on campus students. More useful information for enrolling students is on the Postgraduate Program website.
What courses can I study via distance?
All degrees and specialisations in the Faculty of Education postgraduate program are offered by distance study, using online study materials. Distance students have no compulsory on campus attendance requirements, although many subjects offer optional oncampus support sessions through the session. The best way to find out if the course you would like to undertake is offered by distance is to visit the Coursefinder and select "Distance Education".
For details of each course, click on "Course Structure" under "More Information".
Not all individual subjects are offered each session. You will need to consult the University Timetable to check what is available each session and plan your course of study.
Costs for distance study
The tuition fees for postgraduate programs are the same regardless of the mode of study.
You can find the fees for your course on the Coursefinder by selecting "Fees" under "More Information".
Fees are paid each session, based on the number of credit points you are enrolled in for that session on the relevant census date.
For 2011, all eligible Australian students in the Faculty of Education will be offered Commonwealth Supported Places in the postgraduate program. Click here for details.
English Language requirements
If you are an international student, you must ensure that you meet the English language requirements identified for the Faculty of Education here: http://www.uow.edu.au/future/international/apply/english/index.html
How to apply
Applications can be made by either downloading the forms and submitting hardcopy documents, or using the UOW ApplyOnline link (https://smp.uow.edu.au/app/servlet/Student/) to submit an online application.
Applications need to be received at least one month before the start of the first teaching session.
Information for Domestic students click here.
Information for International students click here.
Enrolling
Distance students use SOLS, the UOW online system to manage their enrolment.
Additional information for enrolling students is given on the Information for Enrolling Students section of the Faculty of Education website.
How will I know when to start?
Students in flexible delivery and distance subjects start and finish their study in line with the standard University teaching Sessions (Autumn and Spring). Distance students must still observe the normal administrative deadlines. These include the dates that teaching starts, the last dates to enrol in a subject and to withdraw from a subject.
Students enrolling in the distance TESOL program should look at the information on the TESOL postgraduate pages for the details of the TESOL Distance program.
Messages from Subject Coordinators will also be sent to students enrolled in each subject through SOLS.
How to access materials
All distance subjects are run as online subjects, using the Janison Learning Management System. This is accessed from the direct link on the Faculty’s homepage.
There are no hardcopy materials sent out for subjects run online.
Students enrolled in the distance TESOL program should look at the information on the TESOL postgraduate pages for the details of the TESOL Distance program.
Most postgraduate subjects use readings from journals and other resources, which are available through the Library E-Readings link or available through Janison.
Any required texts can be purchased on line through the Unishop.
Journal articles can be accessed through the UOW Library website.
