TESOL by DISTANCEWelcome to our TESOL Distance programs. You can join our 150 plus distance students all over Australia and in countries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas. This site gives you basic information on how to study with us by distance. Our distance programs are offered online, using interactive web-based resources, textbooks and other hardcopy materials are supplied if needed. When you enrol you will be given a University of Wollongong email address and password so that you can contact your tutor and access all UOW resources, course notes and readings. Our subjects offer a balance of practical ideas and recent research to inform your teaching. You will work your way through subjects with assessment tasks such as case studies, portfolios of work, reflective reports/ essays and website postings. You will also have the chance to explore and research areas of interest in TESOL. Structure of the Distance TESOL ProgramAll subjects and all degrees in the postgraduate TESOL program are available by distance education, to both domestic and international students, regardless of their location. Study in these degrees does not require any on-campus attendance. Subjects are presented using the Janison Learning Management System (http://www.uow.edu.au/educ/janison/) which allows all students enrolled in each subject to interact with each other and with the tutor. For each subject you will be allocated a tutor who is available by email to answer individual questions about subject content. There are four intakes each year in the distance TESOL program, February, May, August and November. You can start your program or enrol in new subjects at any of these dates. Each intake is approximately the same length as an on-campus session (15 weeks). Click here to download the 2008 TESOL Distance Intake Dates.
