The TESOL Postgraduate Program: OverviewThe TESOL field is rapidly expanding. There has been a push internationally for English teaching at the school level in elementary and secondary schools. The provision of English language at tertiary levels has continued with a focus on English for specific purposes. In Australia, North America and the UK there is increasing demand for well-qualified professionals to work with migrants and refugees and also with international students. The TESOL Postgraduate Program offers an articulated pathway from initial TESOL qualifications right through to research degrees. Courses OfferedOther InformationStudying on CampusStudying on campus involves you in a learning community including students from countries such as Japan, Korea, Argentina, China, Sweden and Australia. Subjects are taught using flexible delivery a combination of face-to-face lectures with online support. Lectures are generally held in the evening, leaving the daytime free for private study, groupwork, field experience or employment. The timetable for on-campus classes can be found at www.uow.edu.au/student/timetables/. For specific information, see individual subject entries. Studying by DistanceAll subjects and courses are available by distance education requiring no on-campus attendance. Courses offered by distance education are of the same high standard as those offered on campus. There are four distance intakes per year, which enable you to conveniently plan your studies. In 2008, the intake commencement dates are: 11 February, 28 April, 4 August and 3 November. Enrolment at least 3 weeks before the commencement of the intake is preferred. For specific information, see the information under the TESOL Distance link. Fee InformationFees are payable for some on-campus programs and all distance education programs.
