Introduction
Graduate studies in Education Leadership provide unique programs for those who aspire to be leaders or who wish to occupy a policy or evaluation role within a variety of educational enterprises.
The programs offer subjects that explore a range of educational issues including the use of modern technologies, cross-cultural perspectives and change factors.
The programs also provide an opportunity for students to link studies with Master of Business Administration subjects such as financial management and strategic planning.
The aim of the program is to provide future leaders and administrators with a broad understanding of educational issues while allowing for specialised study in areas of expertise.
Degrees Offered
- Doctorate of Education Educational Leadership
- Master of Education in Education Leadership
- Graduate Certificate In Educational Leadership
2010 Teaching Program
In 2007, the Australian Centre for Educational Leadership in the Faculty of Education adopted a new approach to course delivery, teaching and learning designed to meet the needs and fit the working lives of aspiring and practicing educational leaders across Australia and internationally. All postgraduate Educational Leadership subjects will be delivered using this innovative strategy.
Subjects will be delivered using two broad approaches: Flexible Delivery and Distance Education.
Both categories of student will have access to course materials, electronic readings, other resources, discussion, feedback and interaction through Janison LMS - a powerful Australian-made on-line learning management system, widely used throughout Australia and overseas which the Centre has successfully introduced in Spring 2006. In addition, students will attend Professional Learning Conferences and Weekend Schools each semester.
Professional Learning Conferences
At the beginning of each semester teaching staff from the Australian Centre for Educational Leadership will hold a Professional Learning Conference (PLC) in Wollongong at the Centre.
PLCs provide students with motivating face-to-face interaction while still allowing course completion from a distance. These give busy educators the chance to interact with teaching staff and students, receive input and guidance for the coming semester, hear guest speakers and attend library and other information sessions.
Students enrolled in the Flexible Delivery program are expected to attend PLCs while students at too great a distance can enrol in the Distance program. However where possible, Distance students are encouraged to attend PLCs.
In addition, there will be additional Saturday schools held at UoW later in the semester, typically two for each subject. Subject coordinators will advise the dates for Saturday Schools( comprising workshops/seminars or presentations by Guest Lecturers) in individual subjects.
There will be no requirement for regular weekly attendance on campus during semester.
