Learning and Socio-Cultural Theory
March 7, 2007
The international workshop, jointly organised by Learning and the Learner Research group and ISCAR (The International Society for Cultural Activity and Research), and Chaired by A/Prof Peter Kell and Dr. Irina Verenikina, was a great success. It was well attended with over 50 participants who came from a number of different disciplines. The workshop included participants from Japan, US, UK, New Zealand and a number of different universities in Australia.
Keynote for the workshop, Prof. Harry Daniels, Director for the Centre for Sociocultural and Activity Theory Research, and Professor of Education: Culture and Pedagogy at the University of Bath, UK is well known with a number of his books in the area.
The workshop stimulated a lot of new and exciting discussion about learning and teaching from a Vyotskian perspective and will lead to a number of downstream activities such as, published workshop proceedings and a Learning and the Learner led website on Vygotksy.
The workshop was smoothly run with terrific help from Gillian Vogl and Marianne Gale who have done a great job organising it.
