The Voices of Children: Exploring Childhood and Culture through Visual LiteracySep 14, 2005 Through a successful UIC International Links Grant five institutions (University of Wollongong, City University Hong Kong, Assumption University Thailand, Northern Illinois University USA and Universiti Sains Malaysia) have combined to realise a unique research project and exhibition. Voices of Children is a travelling photographic exhibition that draws on the images that children from five countries have constructed. Five different cultural perspectives are depicted through the use of images and words generated by children from 6 to 14 years of age. The children used disposable cameras, to capture images of their everyday experiences. Selected photographs were then converted to large digital images, multiple displays and some static images for the exhibition that will be shown in the FCA Gallery, University of Wollongong between September 26-30. The exhibition will be opened by renowned Australian photographer, Rex Dupain on Friday 30th September at 4.00pm. The exhibition will travel to Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and the USA over the next twelve months. The exhibition has been generously supported by Adobe Systems. The exhibition has been organised by Faculty of Education staff Pauline Lysaght, Ros Westbrook and Ian Brown.
