Problems with Cookies
Cookies are small files stored on your computer by websites so that they can track where you are on the website, whether you have certain rights, etc. As you may have noticed, ezproxy does not work if it is not able to write a cookie to your browser. Below are the instructions for setting cookies in Microsoft's browser.
Cookie Settings in Microsoft Internet Explorer
==============================================
1. Click on the tools menu and select Internet Options
2. Click on the Privacy tab
3. Pull the slider down all the way so that the setting is "Accept all cookies". Once we have success in accessing the ereadings, you can experiment with higher settings to see which ones still work.
4. on the same screen, make sure that "Block popups" is not checked. Some databases seem to use popups and will not work if they are blocked.
5. Click on Apply
6. Click on OK
I would then close your browser, and then reopen it to ensure that the new settings are used. Check to see if you have access via the
catalogue at http://library.uow.edu.au/
eReading Crash Problems
This may be due to a memory limitation of your computer or your printer. Many of the eReadings files are very large (2-3mb) and displaying or printing them may require a fast computer and printer, both with a lot of memory.
If you have this problem frequently, you might:
- ask your lecturer to provide the reading on paper
- expand the memory of your computer
- read or print the document somewhere else, where a better computer/printer is available
In any case, you should let your lecturer know that you are having problems; they won't be aware that something needs to be fixed if you don't tell them it's broken.
