Canadian Exit Information
Please ensure that all debts to the University are cleared, as any indebtedness will interrupt the flow of documents to Canada (as transcripts will not be available until debt is clear). This will impede your registration for teaching.
If you require specific Methods to be noted on your testamurs and transcripts you will need to advise Professional Officer / SSC by 12 November 2008. Any adjustment to testamurs and/or transcripts after that date will incur a $50 service charge.
The Faculty organises registration for one (1) province only, normally Ontario (OCT). If a student wishes to be registered in a province other than Ontario, the contact details of this alternate employing body need to be supplied to Professional Officer / SSC by 12 November 2008.
If students wish to be registered in more than one province they will need to organise additional registrations directly with the N.S.W. DET. Any future registration documents, in subsequent years, will also need to be organised by the student directly with the N.S.W. DET.
The University of Wollongong will send to the OCT (or other nominated employing body):
i) a letter of professional standing
ii) an original transcript of GDE studies
iii) a course descriptor which includes a subject descriptor of each subject including the number of hours studied and the number of days spent at school, practice teaching
These documents will be couriered to the OCT (or other nominated employing body) for arrival before Christmas. This will allow students access to these documents in the New Year, to commence their registration application process.
The OCT will not accept a transcript which does not reflect a date on which the degree was conferred, that is, a graduation date. Please remember to apply to graduate by the advertised date even if you are not planning on attending the ceremony.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR STUDENTS NOT RETURNING PERMANENTLY TO CANADA IN 2008:
The documentation is deemed, by the OCT (and other employing bodies), to be valid for twelve (12) months only. You will need to organise newly issued DET documents directly with the DET if you do not return by Christmas 2008.
If students attend Graduation, prior to their departure, they will be given a testamur and a transcript at the ceremony. If students do not attend Graduation these same documents will be mailed to the address supplied on the Student On Line Services (SOLS).
Please ensure that you change your address back to a Canadian contact (perhaps your parents' address).
Letter of Professional Standing
This document is the most important document in your teacher registration package. The N.S.W. Department of Education and Training (DET) generate this letter.
To ensure that this letter is forthcoming by early January it is imperative that you:
i) Please ensure that your contact email with the DET is changed to reflect an email address that you will be accessing / reading when you return to Canada.**
ii) Please ensure that you continue to read any emails from the DET to check for requests for additional or missing documents from your Graduate Recruitment Program application.
iii) Please ensure that you have submitted the originals of the following DET documents (certified copies of these particular documents will not be accepted):
Two referee forms
Permission for police check
Prohibited Persons declaration form
**It is imperative that the N.S.W. Department of Education and Training can contact you after you return to Canada, with regards to your application. To that end, please recall your TEACH NSW application and change the contact email address to your hotmail or yahoo email address. Please do not leave your university email as the email contact as you will be unable to use this after graduation.
Additional Letters of Professional Standing
If you require additional Letters of Eligibility from the DET you will need to email them at the following:
teachNSW@det.nsw.edu.au
The DET will advise you of the cost for the Letter of Professional Standing upon application.
Please allow a lead-time of at least eight weeks for the DET to mail the letter of professional standing to your nominated teacher registration board.
Additional Transcripts
If, during the course of your career, you require additional transcripts you will need to access the following URL and follow the instructions:
