Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Maths Education at Loftus
Matt Pope, a fourth year student in the Bachelor of Science Education had this to say about his experience . . .
UOW Loftus Education Centre is a great place to learn. The class sizes are small and it’s so easy to get one-on-one advice from lecturers, as well as learning development staff who are more than willing to help with essays and reports. The camaraderie we have developed over the years really adds to the learning experience.

It helps to know good advice isn’t too far away. The facilities at Loftus Education Centre are excellent with modern, well-equipped classrooms, a first-rate science lab with fantastic support staff, and a computer lab (PC’s and Mac’s) that always seems to have a machine free whenever you need it. We even have our own library with all the reference material you will ever need. It’s not just the learning environment that makes this place great, the kitchen and recreation areas come in handy when it’s break time, not to mention that it’s close to trains and lots of free parking. All of these things coupled with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere make Loftus Education Centre an excellent place to learn.
Bachelor of Education: The Early Years
A brand new course in Early Childhood will be offered from 2009 onwards. The Bachelor of Education: The Early Years will qualify students to work with young children aged 0 to 5 years. This exciting new course replaces our previous degrees in the field of Early Childhood.
Kylie Estreich is pursuing further studies in Early Childhood at the Wollongong campus after completing her initial degree there – she has used her qualifications to enter an unusual field of work . . .

The second I heard this quote – back in Year 11 at high school – something within it resonated with me and I found over the following weeks that it was stuck in my head. I realised then what I wanted to do with my life when I finished school: study Education and become a Play Therapist. Many people have never heard of Play Therapy but my tutors were very accommodating, taking into account my chosen career path and helping me work towards it. I really enjoyed the course, and the highlight for me was being given the opportunity to complete my third year professional experience at Sydney Children’s Hospital with the Department of Recreation and Play Therapy – the place where I had been dreaming of working for years.
I studied hard and found out about a job opportunity at Sydney Children’s Hospital. Positions in Play Therapy are quite rare in Australia, so I applied – I had nothing to lose. I was so excited to find out I had gotten the job! My dream had come true.
I love my job – I learn something new every single day, and knowing that I can make a difference in the life of a sick child is the most rewarding feeling in the world. I will always be grateful for my time spent studying Early Childhood Education at the University of Wollongong – without the guidance of my tutors and their constant support and encouragement, there is no way I would be where I am today.
