Expression of Interest: Lecturers/Tutors Secondary Methods

The Faculty of Education invites Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified secondary teachers and/or
primary teachers interested in lecturing and tutoring in the Graduate of Diploma of Education (GDE) program for 2010. The GDE program is taught at Wollongong and satellite campuses at Shoalhaven, Bega and Batemans Bay. The GDE secondary and primary method classes are conducted over 2 sessions in Autumn and Spring usually one or two afternoons per week. Successful applicants will need to cater for the different needs and modes of delivery required at Wollongong and the satellite campuses and have well developed ICT skills. Applications to be considered for the eligibility list are invited from people with: general pedagogical knowledge; sound understanding of relevant NSW Board of Studies syllabus and associated documents; NSW Institute of Teacher requirements.

Applicants for Graduate Diploma in Education Secondary Method Teachers require expertise and experience in teaching one of the Faculty’s method areas listed below:

  • Visual Art (double method)
  • Music (double method)
  • Music Method (double method)
  • Drama (single method)
  • Mathematics (double method)
  • Science – Physics; Chemistry; Biology; Earth and Environmental Science (double method)
  • Geography (single method)
  • Business Studies (single method)
  • English (single method)
  • Modern History (single method)
  • Computer Studies (double method)
  • French (single method)
  • Society and Culture (single method)
  • Legal Studies (single method)

Applicants for the Graduate Diploma in Education (primary) require expertise and experience in teaching in the Key Learning Areas (KLAs) listed below:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science and Technology
  • Creative Arts
  • Human Society and Its Environment
  • Numeracy

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant academic qualifications (minimum four year trained)
  • Sound knowledge of current secondary education issues
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in professional development and teacher
    education
  • Sound knowledge of ICT and alternative modes of delivery of course content
  • Ability to work effectively in a team

Desirable Criteria:

  • Permanent full time employed teacher
  • Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in the nominated method

Applicants should note that the eligibility list is a pool of suitably qualified people whose expertise can be
called upon to undertake sessional lecturing, tutoring, marking and online support in the graduate Diploma of education. Inclusion on this list does not guarantee employment within the University of Wollongong.
