2009 Research Honours Colloquium
The Faculty of Education Alumni Chapter has sponsored a prize for an Honours Research proposal since 1998. It was the first major activity undertaken by the fledgling group and has been a high priority each year since.
While the requirements and method of scoring have changed over time we continue to see a high standard of applicant each year.
Last Tuesday, July 28, 2009, Michael McCarthy (winner in 2008) returned to present the results of his research. This is a requirement for the winner of the $1000 prize. Michael’s presentation was not only informative but left us in little doubt that he had been a worthy winner.
This year there were only two applicants for the prize: Nicole Friedewald and Sue Denny. Before an audience of faculty, alumni, friends and third year students the applicants gave exceptional presentations - which made the work of the judges difficult indeed. The result was close but a unanimous decision awarded the prize to Sue Denny.
We look forward to Sue’s presentation next year when she will provide us with the results of her research.
The Alumni hope that the third year students in the audience will be inspired to go on to an Honours degree next year and will be presenting at next year’s Colloquium.
A special thank you to the Faculty members Dr Julie Kiggins and Associate Professor Lori Lockyer, who joined Dr Peter Bailey and me on the judging panel.
