The University of Wollongong 's Graduate School of Medicine is truly a Medical School for the 21st Century. Our new Medical School, operating out of our Wollongong and Shoalhaven campuses, will welcome students for the first time in January 2007. And with your help, our students will have the opportunity to learn using the latest medical technology.
Our skills laboratories will be equipped with life-size virtual patient simulators mannequins that can be programmed to exhibit the symptoms of various conditions and diseases. These mannequins look and feel like humans, and allow students to practically develop and apply their skills for diagnostic medicine and for intervention and surgery.
Wollongong will be at the forefront in the use of such technology to teach life-saving medical skills and we think this is such a critical and valuable resource that it must be shared with our community. We plan to make our skills laboratories available to emergency rescue and medical professionals and volunteers. We have invited the region's paramedics, ambulance officers, nurses, surf lifesavers and members of NSW Police, Fire Brigades and the Rural Fire Service to use our skills laboratories for training. The skills they develop and refine using this equipment will be invaluable in their work to protect our community.
This is a unique opportunity that is not available anywhere else in Australia but we need your help to make it happen.
