Graduate School of Medicine

The University of Wollongong 's Graduate School of Medicine is truly a Medical School for the 21st Century. Our new Medical School, operating out of our Wollongong and Shoalhaven campuses, will welcome students for the first time in January 2007. And with your help, our students will have the opportunity to learn using the latest medical technology.

Our skills laboratories will be equipped with life-size virtual patient simulators – mannequins that can be programmed to exhibit the symptoms of various conditions and diseases. These mannequins look and feel like humans, and allow students to practically develop and apply their skills for diagnostic medicine and for intervention and surgery.

Wollongong will be at the forefront in the use of such technology to teach life-saving medical skills – and we think this is such a critical and valuable resource that it must be shared with our community. We plan to make our skills laboratories available to emergency rescue and medical professionals and volunteers. We have invited the region's paramedics, ambulance officers, nurses, surf lifesavers and members of NSW Police, Fire Brigades and the Rural Fire Service to use our skills laboratories for training. The skills they develop and refine using this equipment will be invaluable in their work to protect our community.

This is a unique opportunity that is not available anywhere else in Australia – but we need your help to make it happen.

Celestial Beams

Celestial Beams is a volunteer organisation in the Illawarra that raises funds for worthwhile community projects. In 2007 Celestial Beams has adopted the Graduate School of Medicine at the University of Wollongong as its major fundraising project.

Celestial Beams is asking the region's business community to "buy a tile" to help the University of Wollongong build a stronger, safer and healthier community.

SUPPORT NOW

To develop our skills laboratories we are asking for the support of the local community. Our "buy a tile" campaign invites you to contribute to a donor wall, with funds used to support the acquisition and maintenance of this vital community resource.

Each tile costs $5,000, and your contribution will be acknowledged on a special wall to be constructed near the Graduate School of Medicine building. You will also be able to claim your contribution as a tax deduction.

You can "Buy a tile" now through our secure online donation form and support the UOW Graduate School of Medicine.

To make your donation by cheque or request a tax invoice please email donations@uow.edu.au or contact one of the representatives below.
