2007 Appeal Update
In 2007 generous alumni and supporters of UOW have given over $26,000 for visionary dementia education and training programs and to assist students in need. Over 150 alumni and friends have supported these projects this year.
From these gifts, over $14,000 will support the Learning & Development Fund, including $4,000 from Education graduates, and over $11,000 will support dementia education and training programs.
Financial disadvantage is a significant issue for our students but gifts from alumni and friends will give students in need the chance to reach their full potential. These gifts mean that in 2008 we will be able to offer scholarships to students in need in each of our faculties.
Dementia is another serious community concern, inflicting one in 15 Australians over the age of 65. But with the support of alumni and friends we are working to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia. Gifts to the Dementia Centre this year will provide student support to nurses and other practitioners in our dementia education programs and assistance for research into caring for people living with dementia.
We will be awarding the Learning & Development Fund scholarships and student and research grants for the dementia centre early next year. Information on the worthy recipients of this support will be included in future editions of our AdvanceUOW Newsletter.
Thank you to all who have contributed to this outstanding support in 2007.
