2006 Appeal Update
The 2006 Appeal supported two vital research projects: Professor Anatoly Rozenfeld’s prostate cancer research and Dr Tony Okely’s programs to combat child obesity.
The Appeal achieved an outstanding response with over 230 committed Alumni and friends of UOW contributing to these critical community health initiatives.
Over $18,500 was raised.
At a function for Circle of Visionaries donors, both researchers presented on the findings of their research and spoke about the significant role gifts from the Appeal will play in their work.
Professor Rozenfeld and his team in the Centre for Medical Radiation Physics were extremely grateful for the support.
“Donations will be used to accelerate pre-clinical trials currently underway at the St George Cancer Care Centre, Sydney and the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, New York. These trials involve testing new detectors to improve the targeting of radiation for prostate cancer treatment.”
Dr Okely also acknowledged the generosity of donors and the impact this support will have on the activities of the Child Obesity Research Centre.
“Your donation will help us as we strive to find ways to help families and children who suffer from obesity. Specifically, your donation will allow us to run an after-school physical activity and television reduction program for overweight and obese girls. We will also be able to continue with our successful WASPA (Western Sydney Adolescent Sports and Physical Activity Program) and HIKCUPS programs for overweight and obese children and adolescents.”
Thank you to all 2006 Appeal supporters.
