GUY WARREN
"Entrance"

"Entrance" along with "Red Garden" is a print recently completed during Warren's stay as visiting artist at the Northern Edition's print workshop at the Northern Territory University, Darwin.

"Entrance" was in part inspired by a visit to the Northern Territory Art Museum and Gallery where Warren saw a number of freestanding carved figures by Aboriginal artists from the top end of Australia.

These figures were partly the reference point for the tall, thin female figure in the centre but also conveniently reflect Warren's interest in the idea of Gaia (discussed in "Rainforest Blues"). What also makes this print so interesting is the way it is compartmentalised in a cartoon/narrative style and within these compartments the recurring symbolism in Warren's work - the wingman, the boat, and the family group.

"Entrance" can almost be taken as a shorthand summation of the last twenty years of Guy's work.
